I thought I was on a typical client site-visit at a luxury resort hotel property. Nope. Not today. Turned out to not be the full story.

One of the unique aspects of our events company is our partnership as an independent licensee of Global Cynergies LLC based in Scottsdale, AZ USA. At no cost to you, Global Cynergies will provide you a comprehensive cost proposal of suitable hotels and venues for your meeting or event, anywhere in the world! It provides us the economy of scope and scale to source and present amazingly perfect hotels to our clients for their meetings and events on global scale.

One such opportunity happened to be in Global Cynergies home town, and a quick jump flight from our company-base in Los Angeles, the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch.

Set in the Sonoran Desert on 27-acres amidst lush desert landscaped grounds and flowering cactus, as well as the photo-op giant Saguaro just outside the open-air main lobby, and framed by the McDowell Mountains in the near distance, the property is one of our secret gems for our LA and Orange County based corporate clients who want relaxed-luxury, but not the budgets of the coastline or Hawaii. With 493 rooms and suites, 70,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, and a full-service spa, we have been able to accommodate multiple size groups on property!

But the real surprise for both family and corporate guests is the most interesting hotel employee I have ever met. Now I have been working in events and with hotels around the world for 20+ years. But I have never met a hotel DIRECTOR OF WILDLIFE! Meet Mr. Joe Miller, AKA “Eagle Joe”.

Joe has been an employee of the hotel for over 30 years. Started as a young kid cleaning and maintaining the inviting pools on property and spent volunteer time at the Liberty Wildlife center

located in central Phoenix just a crow’s flight from Sky Harbor Airport. This could be an entire separate blog it is such an amazing organization! They are committed to nurturing the nature of Arizona and the desert by providing quality wildlife rehabilitation, environmental education, and conservation services for the communities it serves. They have worked with over 7800 wild animals and over 60% are reintroduced into the wild to go about their wild lives! Open to the Public every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday, 10am – 1PM.  OR, just be a guest at Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch and you can see some of the wildlife every day.

And boy do they have wildlife! And some of the wildlife are birds. BIG birds. Not Sesame Street type, but Birds of Prey type!  And Joe, our Director of Wildlife I mentioned, brings these birds to the resort. If you are with a group for a conference and you are having your wonderful event breakfast buffet outside on the grass or in the desert-scape patio, Joe will bring a hawk or eagle to, um, shall we say, keep the little more “I want you to feed me” little birds away from your breakfast. And IT WORKS! Amazing what a Red Tail Hawk hanging out at your lunch will do to keep the Grackles away.

The real daily Birds of Prey Show, for the family and corporate guests both, occurs every day, 4-5PM in the main open-air lobby Center Stage.

Joe brings a wide variety of birds of prey. You may see a Great Horned Owl named Hedwig, a Red Tail Hawk, a Harris Hawk named Lance Wingstrong (you’ll have to ask Joe for the name stories!), the fastest bird in the world, a Peregrine Falcon, and a Black Vulture named Armadillo who knows his colors and proves it to you by liking only PINK Easter Eggs! On a truly lucky day you will get close and personal with a beautiful American Bald Eagle.

The hotel provides this show experience EVERY FRIDAY from late October to end of April. At a time when hotels are all trying to create and provide additional, unique, bespoke experiences for their guest, the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch is, and has been, way ahead of the pack.

Whether a corporate retreat or event, or a family get-away, this property should always be on your short list. Premier pricing during the late Fall and Winter months of course, and excellent budget –friendly opportunities in late Spring and Summer.

We know this hotel well and would love to help you host your next group here.

You guests will love it!
